I'm tempted to pick up the A-pod from Suluk46 for my camera. Basically, it turns your trekking pole into a tripod by inverting it and staking it out with 3 stakes. You'd need 3 lengths of cord. I was wondering if there is anything lighter than the 1 mm stuff from Litetrail for this purpose that won't get tangled like crazy? Maybe 4 lb fishing line? Thoughts?

spectra fishing line would work fine, but be more prone to tangle.
I considered it but eventually decided it would be more a pain in the A to try to use, than it would be worth. It doesnt have a ball joint, so theres no adjustability to the camera, and seems like endless fiddle factor. Most of the time I get somewhere I want to take a pic of me, I am high on a rocky prominence with expansive background views, and not someplace where I could easily set it up. Ie not stake friendly.
That said, I have not actually used one, and I could be mistake.
0.8 mm Spectra or Dacron kite line.
Try any good kite shop and ask.
Mind you … the weights involved are not the biggest thing in your pack. I wouldn't sweat too much about it.
Cheers
