Trip report from 6/23 http://www.portlandhikers.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=19284
Devil's Lake clear (5400')
Moraine Lake totally snow covered (6400')
I was at sparks lake two days ago. The south side of south sister was pretty snowy still. I bet there's snow in the glb still
Thank you both for the beta. South Sister is one of the routes we are considering. Looks doable, but a lot of work.
Sometimes better walking on snow than loose gravel.
Depending on which hour on which day, the snow can be icy, postholeing, or easier than other surfaces. Snow tends to be more consolidated this time of year so less postholey. And it isn't cold enough to be icy.

It looked pretty consolidated in the trip report you linked me to, typical this time of year most places. I checked the weather down there and it is quite warm, with daytime temps in the high 50's at ~8500', and high 30's-low 40's at night. Could make for ideal hiking conditions. We'll see….
