Well, after about four years of lurking around these forums, I thought it was finally time to get a membership here and post a bit. Horray! first post!
…anyways, on to the real important bits…
Late July I'll be leaving from Reds Meadow heading towards Yosemite valley, this will be my first adventure of this nature in the high Sierra, so I'm looking forward to it quite a bit, however i am not experienced with what sort of conditions I might encounter, I am vastly more familiar with the conditions around the bay area, central coast conditions and what the weather tends to do in SoCal… Now, due to this I have NO idea what the weather does up in the Sierra in the summer or expected lows, etc.
Anyone have an idea of what "typical" conditions might be nominal for a late summer trek? I'm mostly curious about sleep systems, I have a 20f down back i could take, but its heavy, or a light summer 40f bag. I have some stuff on order to make myself a hoodless bag (m90, 5oz apex), So I think the apex bag will be what i want to take, but, the materials for that are not here yet (although as a disclaimer I made my wife an 5.0 apex quilt and she loves it and worst case, I can steal hers.)
I'm planning on this being somewhere around a 5 or 6 day trip, but I've never been up there before, so I really have no idea what the conditions will end up being like and if that will end up impacting travel.
Anyways, glad to be a part of this community at last, I have managed to gleam all sorts of useful stuff from the great collective consciousness that is BPL over the years
