Thanks for reading it and the comment Tom. I find balancing my wants with keeping Marcus eager and entertained a challenge. His favorite parts "was not the drive or the walking" it was "cooking the hot dog and marshmallow and eating them". So maybe a campfire at home would do for him!

I think a few camping trips to make sure he is comfortable with dayhikes for fun are a good solution. He had a blast in the Columbia River Gorge with a short walk to waterfalls that he could get wet from. I grew up on 250 acres and had easy access to more at my grandparents. I am trying to instill a comfort and love of the outdoors to him while living in town. Not the easiest challenge. Others on here have posted their trips with their kids and really motivated me to think of my son first when it comes to planning some of my outdoor trips.

I did read another trip report from the same hike that mentioned seeing a bear. And there were a few guys in the area hunting bears when we were up there.

No, it isn't, especially given the numerous distractions kids face these days. But, I'd say you're on the right track, and off to a good start. Only next time, don't forget the graham crackers. ;0))
