July 4th weekend. Where should I go? I'm in So Cal so the whole weekend can't be taken up with driving. I could probably pad the weekend with an extra day.

Too hot in the Los Padres.
Too many mosquitoes in the Sierra?
Too much poison oak in the Ventana?

I'd be solo, too. Any suggestions?

Not as many as there should be right now. It is tooooooo dry.

There are fire bans in place. Sierra destinations will be cooler.

That's a tough one. Id say the Sierras…even though the mosquitoes will suck you can camp in areas to avoid them. The other option would be WAY up north on the Lost Coast, but that's a pretty far drive.

You could consider some places up by Big Sur. Even though its hot up there, there are lots of placed you can be deep in the trees, and have some great swimming holes.

Oh Piper, I'm in the same boat! I have three, possibly 4 days off, but living in Austin, TX there isn't a place within 8 hours of here that won't be hotter than hell.

But I'm open to suggestions!!!!

I'd love to head out somewhere over the holiday weekend……

Channel Islands – Santa Cruz is the easiest, but call the park and inquire about Santa Rosa.
