Hi all,

I am thinking of converting my Monk Tarp into a cuben poncho/tarp. Before I do, I need some help from crafty MYOG veterans and poncho/tarp users.

My problem is the measurement for the hood. If someone has a GoLite poncho/tarp, and wouldn't mind measuring the flat length and width, that would be ideal. I would also be very interested in hearing the placement of the hood opening on the tarp itself, e.g. 3/4 of the 9' length?

Lastly, and most importantly, would anyone object to bonding the hood to the tarp? I read that MLD sews their hood to their poncho/tarp, but I would like to get away from any sewing.

As always, thanks in advance,

Kelly

I measured my Golite Poncho tarp and here's what I got from just laying it on the floor and stretching it out lightly to smooth out the wrinkles.

Measurements from edge to neck seam of hood:

__________O___________|_______

…..35.5"…………………57"

The mark above in the 57" length was at 27" from the edge to the middle of the velcro where the tarp folds up to secure for poncho use.

The hood was tricky. When laid flat in profile the neck seam is a wave with the forward portion lower than the back.

The middle of the seam to the top of the hood seam was 16". The wavy neck seam measured 13.5".

Thanks Tommy, this definitely gives me an idea and will help me get started mocking.

Take care!

I'm still wondering if anyone objects to bonding the hood straight to the tarp? I am worried about the durability and stress that would be placed on the cut portions of the tarp.

Thanks in advance.
