I realize that this is probably another "holy grail" search, but here goes…
I am looking for a pair of convertible pants with the following attributes:
1) Light
2) Durable
3) Quick Drying
4) Breathable
5) Longer inseam… almost knickeresque (below knee when zipped off)
6) Water resistant would be a plus and offset the need for #3
I don't necessarily care if they do/don't have lower leg zippers – from a weight standpoint I would prefer them without.

I found some cycling pants by showers pass, but I think they are heavy and don't breath. At one time I thought I saw a pair that had zippers at two different points on the leg, allowing either knickers or shorts – I can't find them anymore… if I found them I would probably give them a shot and just remove the shorts zippers and sew them back together.

Have at it… let's see what you can do.

Thanks.

My favorite are the Prana Stretch Zion. The longer inseam is nice and the additional stretch make them the most comfortable pants I have ever worn. They pile a bit over time in harder wearing areas but no durability issues (holes).

When I was searching for convertible pants, most every pant had "daisy duke" style shorts….rei, Columbia, north face, etc. The longest shorts came from the mountain hardwear mesa pants and ….Dakota grizzly convertible pants.

The mesa pants are $$$, and more durable than the Dakota grizzly pants. But….I can get the grizzly pants for $18 on sale at sierra trading post (I get the medium talls…I'm 5'10"…the regulars ride up my crotch too much). They are thinner, so they would dry much quicker.

I don't think you can beat them for the price.

After quite a few trips in them…I'm not sure though whether going convertible is right or not as I almost never take the lowers off….normal pants would be more comfortable…

But…for my kids, I always bring convertible pants (usually rei sahara pants) since they do switching between shorts/pants all the time..and for better thermo regulation which kids needs more than adults.

I just picks up some Cabela's Great Trail Pants. I like them so far. The pockets are a lot better/ Deeper than the Dakota Grizzly pants I had.

+1 for the Prana pants.

On my scale, the Medium with 30" inseem is about 14.7 oz. I've only used 'em for about 20 nights, and biked about 40 miles in the shorts and I've got no visible wear. They are super quick drying – the DWR finish is really nice. I had a soft water bottle drink fail and the water just beaded up. Sweet.

I mainly hike in the Sierras – this past week is in the high 80's and I was way comfy.

I checked the Prana site and the Zion pants also come in 32 and 34 inch inseem.

My only complaint is the zippers for the cargo pockets stick frequently and the pockets are tiny. My map usually goes in my back pocket which is gigantic and stretchy.

"White Sierra" brand meets most of your criteria. They fall to just above my knees, rather than just below, but meet your other criteria.
