One of my daughters would like to go on weekend trips with me. These would likely be late spring or early fall trips, a handful of miles into the nat'l forests around IN/KY/WV/TN. Probably temps no lower than mid 40s.

She's tall for her age, about 4'8" and the ripe old age of 8 1/2.

I'm looking for a lightweight bag that she could use for a couple of years, that isn't a full mummy (she's a restless sleeper).

Any recommendations for something that won't break the bank?

Thanks!

We make JR sizes of our Enigma, Revelation and Prodigy that will fit to a little over 5' or the short which would fit her till she's over 5'6"-5'8"

Definitely go with the enlightened equipment quilt. No doubt about that. I am a huge fan of Tim's Enigma style quilts and would 100% recommend them for you and your children.

I have one of the prodigy series quilts for my 3 year old and it works great. My kids have refused to go in a sleeping bag so quilts solve that problem. Tim was also able to do the quilt in hot pink that he had a small amount of.

I have one of tims for my 4 year old. He likes it. The 30 degree kept him warm to freezing in a 3 person tent.

I have an EE quilt and love it, but I've found sleeping bags work much better for my kids. They're all over the place when they sleep, on the pad, off the pad, sideways, in my face, etc. The bag sticks with them better in my opinion. I would just check out the usual places like REI, campsaver, or backcountry. And I went synthetic for my kids — easy to wash if need be. And you might want to consider a full size bag so she can grow into it. My 8.5 year old son uses a mountain hardwear Pinole (I think there was one on gear swap a few days ago for 50 bucks??). Cheap, warm, easy. If you're only walking a few miles into a site doesn't seem like weight is your primary concern yet. Have fun!
