My brother-in-law and I are planning to thru-hike the TRT beginning June 23. I’m having trouble figuring out where we can get water around Brockway summit. I’m pretty sure there’s water at Watson Lake, then again at Mud Lake, but the TRT website is vague about the 20 miles between, including Brockway Summit. Can anyone advise me on this? Any other advice is also welcome.

jim, there will definitely be water in watson lake.. Mud lake drys up every year though… I did the trt the first week of june last year and there was still a good amount water but this year is pretty low so you never know.
and for in between you either need to cache water at brockway summit or carry enough from watson. i camped at watson last year so i just carried enough for the day to get to mud
Thanks Jason,
Do you know if it's worth hiking down to Gray lake instead of Mud Lake? "Mud Lake" just doesn't sound all that inviting. I think we'll do the same as you did – hike Watson to Mud/Gray Lake in a day.

I definitely recommend the hike down to Gray Lake. It's pretty, the water is clear and cold, and you can hike in and out different spots (so it's not just a down and back). Both times I've done the TRT I have camped at Gray Lake.
