I recently ordered some huarache type sandals from Bedrock Sandals. I got the Syncline model. It's okay for hiking and easy trails, but on fast, technical downhills they loosen up and require tightening to the point they aren't too comfortable. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Luna sandals or Xero sandals. I am leaning toward the Xero Amuri Cloud but was wondering if anyone wanted to chime in with experience/reviews. Thanks for any input.

Avoid the Amuri for the simple fact that it cannot be cut.

I've had the Venturi with me in China for the past week and it has handled well, including a moment on the Huashan plank road. I ordered a size up for width and was able to cut down the length. It's my only experience with huaraches and there have been a few coughs along the way: the silicone toe piece can abrade between your toes when wet and gritty; the straps take some fiddling to adjust (common to all of the genre, I assume). But performance has been tops.

You hike in huaraches? Huaraches have silicone toe pieces? I didn't know these existed! The only huaraches I've ever experienced are the ones that expand a full shoe size, it seems, within 10 minutes of putting them on. I would've never dreamed of depending on these loose, shuffling sandals, but I might have to rethink my image of them.

I go with Luna's. I have a pair of their new Oso Sandals. So far I really like them. I have only used them on day hikes and a bit of jogging. They come with an addition strap that you can take on or off that really helps the sandal stay put on steep terrain. They perform well in wet and muddy conditions. The soles are pretty rugged so you don't get a lot of ground feel, but I think they will feel better on longer hikes with packs.
