I do the opposite of try and leave the sleeping bag home and bring TWO sleeping bags. One is a 20-degree Go-Lite quilt and the other is a 45-degree Jacks R Better wearable quilt. I leave the down jacket home since it weighs the same as the wearable quilt and the wearable quilt is much warmer since it goes below my knees and I can cover my entire legs if I'm sitting. I never hike in my down jacket. I will wear my Z-packs cuben fiber rain jacket and if necessary add a pair of cut-off fleece sleeves and just hike as fast as I can.
