Heya,
I use the typical stuff sack full of clothes method for my pillow. Works great, except that it always slips out when I'm sleeping and I wake up with my head on the floor.

Any tips for that?
I use a neoair and zpacks hood-less sleeping bag in case that factors in.

I put fabric straps on my stuffsack with velcro, and the other half of the velcro glued to my mat. Works great.

Yes. Take a piece of thin cord about 48" long and tie it around your sleeping pad at head level. You can connect the pillow to it via the stuff sack drawstring or if you want to get fancy, sew on a couple of small webbing tabs which you would pass the cord through before tying it around the sleeping pad.

I insert my pillow in a buff. It helps keep it from slipping and sliding out from under my head.

Same as Richard…I use a buff around an exped UL pillow. What is nice about the UL pillow is that there are tabs on each side that you can tie some thin cord to (and the buff is tubular so it doesn't cover the tabs). Just another amazing reason to use a buff.

FWIW, I've had a pillow cord around my exped UL mat end up opening the one of the valves on the mat, resulting in a flattened sleeping experience. I haven't tried velcro yet, but get by with wrapping the pillow in a buff or unused shirt.

Shock cord tied to your stuff sack and looped around the sleeping pad.

Slide a spare T-shirt over the end of your sleeping pad; slip your pillow under the shirt. It will remain in place.

Cheers

I may post this on my youtube channel, "BackpackingVideos," when I have time to finally start uploading some videos, but I came up with the ingenious idea of using Tenacious tape and a hole punch to create an attachment point on your pad. I then sewed loops onto the 4 corners of my pillow and used cordlocks to tighten everything down.

Actually…I read the idea of the Tenacious tape somewhere on this forum.

I'll try to take pics if I ever get the chance.

I slip my pillow into a tee shirt and lay the tee down flat before laying down my bag. With the pillow up near the neck line and sleeve areas- when I lay down my body rests on the remainder of the tee, holding the pillow right where it needs to be.

"The monkey pillow case is awesome. I put my Exped air pillow inside it and the straps hold it onto my air pad. Fleece on one side feels great on your face."

Yeah, feels great. But it was the cords of the Monkey Pillow Case that pulled off the cap of my Exped pad. Comfy pillow or comfy pad? Hmmm, I think I'll take the comfy pad.

p.s. Not saying this will happen to everyone who uses a Monkey Pillow. But it honestly and truthfully happened to me, the very first time I used it. No, I won't be using it again.

on a full length pad with my head on the pad, I have no problem, usually using a mesh clothing sack with a rubber band around neck, it makes a circular pillow. Shoes are inserted under the pad toe first to incline the pad.

On a short pad, because its so narrow at the hips, I put just the toes of my shoes under the top of the pad and pillow goes on top of the shoes. Stays put very well.

I also got a monkey pillow but it didn't work very well for me. My pad has vertical baffles so the elastic squeezed them together and slipped off.

I saw someone once make eye hole tabs on their pad using tenacious tape. You could then tie your pillow onto the pad. I always meant to try it, but haven't gotten around to it.

Here's the link to that post, it has pretty pictures.

Unfortunately, the cord tore through the tape, and I think the tape peeled off as well. Can someone recommend stronger tape? I think better tape in conjunction with a nylon washer at the hole would solve the problem.

Why don't pads come with pillow attachment points? For that matter, why don't pads come with integrated pillows?

I also bought one of these a few months ago and I am going to be taking it out for the 1st time this month.

For some like 1.4 ounces (mine is likely lighter as I opted to NOT have the straps to hold the pillow to my pad as I sleep like a dead log and don't move when I sleep.

Wallace was great to work with….responded quickly with all of my questions and has happy to entertain my requested modification for free.

I simply got sick of using stuff bags as a sweaty pillow.

The fabric is soft the workmanship/sewing was tight and clean.

Have no doubt that this 1.4 oz bit of luxury will be worth it.

I'm just assuming the issue is you have a pad that has a slick surface and your stuff sack isn't much better and the combination of the two isn't working. So it seems to me that the solution would be to not mix the two together. And if you are using a silnylon stuff sack, dump it for something less slippery like cuben fiber.

For the record, I put my pillow/stuff sack on the ground next my sleeping pad. It doesn't slide much.

The monkey pillow has worked great for me with a neoair xlight and exped ul medium pillow. No slipping equals better sleep for me.
