After going in to Walmart the other day, some msr groundhog like stakes caught my eye, for 3 bucks for a pack of four I bought some and cut them at a diagnal to shorten them to a manageable lenght ( they were way to long) and also replaced the cord. I then had essentially 4 msr groundhogs for 3$!

The aluminum is 6061-T?, and not nearly as strong as the 7075 found in Groundhogs.
They are fine in soft ground, but they won't take much abuse.
Take a couple of spares if they are critical to success.
I've tried those stakes before and they do bend very easily. I used them for a few years but when I finally bought the MSR Groundhogs I realized how much stronger the aluminum is. In soft ground they will work fine. And they area good buy for $3. If you bend them you can always buy more.
Yeah,I have some groundhogs I much prefer but thought I'd share a cheaper alternative. I agree that it is worth it to splurge on the msrs.
