I'm a noob at this stuff as the most complicated tech thing I have ever brought with me up until recently was a Suunto watch. I now seem to have items that need to be recharged on long trips with both a 30 pin (iphone) and a micro USB. I thought I would be tricksy and just get a micro USB female to 30-pin male adapter. I got it today and the USB to mico USB cable it came with seem to be a mismatch with the adapter piece – it doesn't work. However some of my other micro USB to USB cable work fine with the adapter. Now I have this growing lack of faith in these tiny bits of cabling that I most likely will not be able to replace at any of my resupply spots. Anyone have any advice on how to get cabling one can count on not breaking? Do I need to put extras in my resupplies just in case?

And not only that, what about the USB charger? I have been using the same two I got with my apply products for years, but just recently I noticed they where pretty warm after charging. Anything I should be worried about?

I think I may be loosing it worrying about this stuff. I knew I should have stayed a luddite.

I would not be afraid of a USB charger that gets a little warm to the touch. That just tells you that it is working. If it never got warm at all, I would be a little worried. OTOH, if it gets so hot that it burns, then that is way too hot.

Look at it this way. You've got a half-ampere to a whole ampere of current flowing through some pretty skimpy wires. Why shouldn't it get a little warm due to copper resistance losses?

Thanks, I think I like that one – more or less what I was looking for but couldn't find. Turns out it is on amazon where I was looking, but too little signal to noise.

BTW, are the cheap Asian ones fragile, and poor quality, or is that just a slander?

Apple devices don't play well with all cables. (Some other devices either) — usually the gauge is too thin.

I bought the one Bayden recommended and it seems to work perfectly with everything. Of course it was the more expensive one that was "Apple Certified" that didn't work with either of the iphones or ipod. Argh!

I just went on Amazon and found a adapter that goes from 1 normal USB connection to a three way; Micro USB, Apple 30 Pin and Lightning connector. IT works well enough I also have one in my get home bag in my car.
