For those who aren't using trekking poles, what poles are you using to set up your tarps? Anyone have any good recommendations or things to look for/avoid?

MLD carbon fiber poles !
I posted a short review of them a little while ago.
The major thing to look out for in ploes is their strength. The MLD cf poles do an excellent job of balancing the strength and weight. Most poles will be a little wobbly and flex to easily but not the MLDs. They are very light of coarse and pack down pretty small. I dont "think" that the 8 week wait applies to the poles- at least it didnt a few weeks ago?
The ultralight answer is to use trees, or sticks lying about on the ground.
