Glacier: Fifty Mountain to Stoney Indian via off trail route ?

Anyone done this route as described on page 110 – 112 of the Climbers Guide ?

Catherdral Peak Ridge Route

The main concerns I have identifed are:
1)Navigating down easy class 3 slopes (not a "climber")
2)Crossing a steep snow filled gully (without an ice axe)

I once climbed down 20-30ft on a class 3 ridge between Virginia and Stanton Peaks north of Yosemite by myself without issue
