Waist Straps for Lights

Several years ago, I made a strap with a Fastex buckle for a headlamp that goes around, or attaches to, the shoulder straps on my backpacks(in this case through the webbing on a MR Dragonslayer), since I do some night hikes.
Really, the chest strap was just something to play with, and I usually use a headlamp on my head with a headnet to keep the bugs off in warm weather, but a waist strap wouldn't be much different.

Webbing of the appropriate size and some buckles should be easy to find online, plus gear stores, even WalMart may have them.
Then you can make the strap whatever length you want.

If you intend to do a lot of night hiking consider a light that rotates – PrincetonTec Byte, ZebraLight, and others. (most clip onto the webbing of waist belts.)

A Tikka –

– by design, mounted on your head, points steeply down. At your waist, it reaches out about 2 feet. Getting the beam where you want it is a PITA.

If you are hiking up you will want the beam aimed differently than if you are hiking down.

Built-in adjustability is good.
