I wear liner socks under my hiking socks, which for my feet helps a lot to prevent blisters. I know a lot of folks don't wear liners, but I've tried with and without them and found that they are very helpful for me.

I've recently switched to UL hiking socks that are low cut, quarter height. Problem is, the only liners I can find come up to at least mid-calf (and I'm talking about "performance" liners, made for hiking or other athletic activity, not everyday liners for grandpa shuffling around the mall). As attractive as some may find white liners extending several inches above the top of low-cut hiking socks, that just isn't a look for me. ;-) Rolling them down doesn't work well, and I've thought about cutting them short but am concerned that without the elastic at the top they will sag and bunch.

Google search does yield a very few, but they appear to be non-performance in design/materials. Have not found something that would be appropriate for hiking.

Anyone know a brand and/or source for low-rise or quarter crew length performance liner socks? Thanks.

you could try The Drymax Hyper Thin Running socks might work, I don’t wear liner socks I just wear these as my only sock and love them, they make all kinds of short thin performance socks but these are their thinnest and lightest ( 10 grams in size large )and dry quickly.

“Rolling them down doesn't work well,…”

I’ve had success in rolling them down ‘farther’. I.e., so far that the top of the sock is now rolled down and under the heel. Thus there are two layers of sock under the heel and it adds a little more plush to your stride. The trick is rolling down to the right length:
1. If it rolls too far the sock top will be smack in the middle of the arch and that hurts; then it needs to be adjusted ±1/4”
2. Or if it’s too far, the back of the foot will be exposed — inviting blisters.

May everyone find their foot zen.

I've been using Injinji socks as liner socks for a couple years now. They're toe socks, which I initially balked at, but love them now. Kind of on the expensive side, at least for me.
