I saw this notice posted on Borah Gear's home page:

"5-16-2014 Paypal issues, refunds
We've had quite a hard time with Paypal since coming back from our company backpacking trip. Upon getting back, we found Paypal not cooperating/loading, and funds were unable to be processed. After contacting them and trying to work it out, they reset the account, losing all orders from April 14th to present (with the exclusion of tarp orders to 4-21 we had printed out). We are in the process of sending refunds to everyone that ordered in that time, as we have no way of seeing what was actually ordered. I'm aware this is a huge inconvience to those who had planned on using their Borah Gear on upcoming trips, and we are very sorry for this! I just don't want to keep people waiting while this Paypal issue works itself out. We will figure out what is going on and if they don't resolve this in the coming days, we will be switching checkout systems. Please check back as the week goes on to see when you can order again. Thanks!"

I have no affiliation with Borah Gear. I have bought several of their products and they are top notch. I posted this in case people are wondering what happened to their orders. Cheers.

I ordered a Borah gear Snowyside Bivy this spring. Paypal worked fine and emails back and forth were slow (4-5 day waits) but helpful. I was annoyed when they announced an additional 2 weeks lead time right after I bought my bivy.

And then…

My bivy came in the mail, and it was wonderfully constructed, and has performed fabulously. I have no more complaints. With small companies like these, it is best to understand that they are human beings doing their best to match the popularity their stellar work brings in.

It's worth the trouble.

Well, he was on a trip for the first week of that 11-day span. Can't speak to why he hasn't replied yet after returning, though. I'm sure his inbox was jam-packed. Try again?

Well said Max.

Let's all take a moment to appreciate how hard it is to run a one-person business when everything runs smoothly. I have the Borah 5.5×9 tarps and it is top-notch stuff. My experience was great from order to receipt (early) of a great product I plan to own/user for a long time

It appears that these problems are not of the owner's making, and I would not hold that against him. In fact, it might make me more likely to buy from him as it serves the community to help honest makers of quality gear survive…this problem has got to be costing his company dearly. One has to assume that the most pressing issues are getting full attention first, so delayed responses should be expected.

Best of luck John, I hope you work out the issues soon.

From the Borah Gear website:
"5-23-2014 Update
"Paypal is up and working for us again, and we're in the process of getting all the buttons made up and added to the website again. We'll be ready to take orders again by Monday afternoon, and we'll also be back in the office to answer the missed emails while we were down. Thanks everyone for the patience!"

I ordered a CF bivy in the early spring. I emailed them a couple of times and they did always seem to take a few days to respond, but they always did eventually respond. I have no complaints about the service I got.

After receiving a regular size CF bivy, I realized it was larger then the other bivies I've had so I emailed them about modifying it to make it shorter. A longer bivy under a small tarp is just more space I have to defend against rain and I don't normally store extra stuff in my bivy leaving it in my backpack. They agreed and made the modifications as requested with no issues. I was very happy with the final product.

Just wanted to say that I was able to place an order recently after they got back up online. John was once again responsive and had my new bivy shipped to me within a week.
