Figures that a sale like this would come up right after I just bought a new montbell sleeping bag last week from the montbell outlet
Awesome…I had a WTB post for a montbell super spiral #3 that wasn't getting filled and now I can get a new one for about the same price as a used one!
The one thing that I'm wary about …is that there is no description on the web page for the bag….so I don't know what model year this is….
I assume this is the older version before they started calling everything "down hugger 800 #3", "down hugger 650 #3"….so the UL super spiral #3 is the 800 down version….
I'll call tomorrow morning and confirm.
Great deal. The MB #3 bag shown is from before the spiral models. Should be top of the line at was it 800fp the last year or 725fp earlier, as it is marked SS for super stretch (not super spiral) UL.
Ok, so I called mammoth mountaineering and they were the first to admit that their website sucked.
The picture is wrong…that is the old super stretch system (horizontal baffles). Also, last night when I ordered, there wasn't a description….now there is one…but it is of the #1 Long version in orange description. (incidentally, it is the same description on all of their bags on their website, even the #5). They said they would get that fixed.
More importantly….they were able to find their bag in the store and gave me style #2321139 which leads to ->

U.L.Super Spiral Down Hugger #3
With the proper description and specs. I was worried that this bag was going to be the old "spiral down huggers" that did not use elasticized stitching. However, I called montbell and they said that if the word "super" was in the title…it used elasticized thread. The description on the site says ->
"By combining this stretchy fabric, strategic seam orientation, and the elasticized gathers we offer unrivaled fit and comfort. "
which new bags say
"To create an even more comfortable system we utilize an elasticized thread in the stitch to create small "gathers" in the quilting."
So a bit of a difference but I do believe it is the stretchy seams…I certainly hope so! I don't want a spiral down hugger with nonelasticized threads. Especially since these are clearance items so there is no return policy on them.
Well…that stinks. I ordered the #3 and they canceled my order. They only had 1 bag, and someone else bought it before I did and their website sucks so inventory didn't get adjusted. They don't have the #1's available either, just a #5 in long.
