Hi guys,

Was wondering if anyone has ever come across a polartec 100 hoodie 1/4 zip pullover? I'm pretty sure that polartec 100 has the best warmth to weight ratio when wet (I'd like to know if anyone disagrees) but no matter how many google searches I make I simply can't find one.

Sherpa gear makes one for women which I bought and it's EXACTLY what I want.. except in a men's cut… I ended up giving mine to my mom after a few hikes in it :)

Northface just released one but it doesn't have a zip and it has a huge front pocket.. too heavy :P

Any ideas?

Cheers

Spanish manufacture of reputably high quality outdoor clothing and other gear. Link (not inserted cause i don't know how) http://www.astucas.com/en/ If they don't make on already, from their reputation, they will make one for you. I have a lightweight grid fleece from MEC I really like if you want something more off the rack, but not at all 100 wt. PF.

You might look for a Power Stretch Hoody. It's basically a stretchy version of 100wt fleece, with a smooth outside finish, fleecy inside finish. Fantastic stuff. EMS makes a hoody version. Marmot makes several Power Stretch tops.

gearx.com still has some Sherpa – Namche Hoodies in stock if you liked how they fit , different colors according to size so I don't know if that is workable for you? I really like mine also and am not giving it away .They were $15 on the CLYMB site last year.

Well Patagonia makes an R1 hoody that is Polartec Power Dry… Apparently it weighs 12.6 oz so pretty light for a hoody.

No personal experience but maybe something to look into. It won Outdoorgearlab's Editor's Choice if that helps lol.

The Patagonia R1 hoodie is essentially the gridded version of PowerStretch fleece. Pretty similar stuff.

The new Capilene 4 fabric and the Marmot Thermo Hoody (same fabric) are awesome. Just slightly lighter than 100 weight fleece, but covers a very wide range of temperatures.

Thanks for all your suggestions! I'm really looking for classic fleece though. My current Clorophylle 1/4 Zip top (not made anymore) is about 15 years old and still has no holes although it has piled quite a bit. I tried a microgrid fleece by Patagonia and ripped it 4 places in just a 3 day trip so I'm not sure sure about the durability. I've also tried Powerdry and I don't find it nearly as warm for the weight as classic Fleece. The Namche Hoody by Sherpa is THE BEST but it's only made for women and the cut just doesn't fit me (I'm a dood!)

This northface hoodie would be perfect without the pocket and with a 1/4 zip on it :)

If you were handy with sewing, you could probably get a version slightly larger than what you want, or missing a zipper, or perhaps cut to a women's version, and modify for your own preferences. Just a thought!

I had the old REI Rimrock hoody, and the thing was shaped for really wide people. I liked it just fine, but always felt like I was swimming in it, so I returned it. Looking back, it would have been cool if I'd sewn it with a tighter fit and even added a zip down to the 'roo pocket. Oh well.
