I'm considering converting my bag to a quilt, and adding some down. I have a Feathered Friends Vireo, which is basically a zipperless tube bag that seems (to me) prime for conversion to a quilt. If I had the sewing skills, I would do it myself, but the time involvement in learning a new skill is just not worth it, especially to have it done properly. To me it just involves making a straight cut down the back of the bag, adding some down to the cut open baffles, and then sewing it up in a pretty fashion. I'm sure this is simplistic, but not so much. I'd like it to be like the Katabatic quilts, with slightly elastic back and a similar clip system.

Anyone out there doing this sort of thing? I've checked out a few local places but they want like $300 to do it, which seems pretty high considering the modifications and materials (~$50) required. I would just sell the current bag and buy a Katabatic quilt, but I can't get the fabric that my current bag has (tuck-stitched Pertex Shield), and they're backlogged beyond some trips I have planned soon.

I've been researching how to convert a marmot plasma 30F to a quilt. I'd like to essentially remove the hood and zipper, then do a 1/4 length stitched toe box using the down from the hood to overfill the open baffles in toe area. With the plasma it has those funny neck draft collars which I'm not sure how to handle. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks
