Hi all,
I'm looking for some suggestions on a beginner's tenkara kit. I've looked at the Iwana from T USA and I looked at patagonia's kit (I have a $230 gift card).

My question is:

What would be a good rod for a beginner? What sort of kit do I need? Can you provide any examples?

As always, thanks in advance

I found Fountainhead rods to be a great value:

For starters I would NOT go with the Patagonia kit. It is simply a tfo Tenkara rod with a Patagonia label, and has hardly any action. Otherwise I'd check out Tenkara USA and tenkarabum as well I think my next rod will be a Tenkara times try rod. It is under 2.5 ounces and I have heard nothing but good about it.

I just picked up a Wetfly starter tenkara kit on The Clymb (nicely discounted).

It's free to join and while there isn't always something I'm looking for available – there are often some good deals on gear.

If you use this link I disclose that I get a credit for people joining. I like the site so whether you use this method or just sign up it's worth it.

I think I'm going to go with the shimotsuke starter kit from tenkara bum. Thanks everyone!
