I want to head out next Thursday and spend a few days and emigrant seems perfect. The plan is to head from crabtree, cross west cherry creek and off trail explore some of the lake basins (riccasso, big lake pingree).

Does anyone know what the conditions are like up there right now? I went June first last year and there was know snow, it was very hot (100+ at one point) and the mosquitoes were brutal.

Is there still snow? Is cherry creek crossable? Are the mosquitoes out?

I came on to post the same question. I planned to head up next week and do a loop from Crabtree. I have heard that in Yosemite there is very little snow below 9000 in some areas while other areas are still covered and the lakes are frozen. My guess is that the creeks will be high but nothing impassable.

Just a heads up for next week, looks like some weather may move in on Thursday, thunderstorms and chance of snow up high.

We stopped at about 8,000 last weekend because the snow was covering the trail, the rest of the hike was even higher, and the wind was blowing hard, the temps were in the low 40s, and it was clouding over.

Crabtree trailhead was not open last weekend–it was only open to the Aspen Meadows Pack station at the top of the ridge. It apparently is now open—so you can get to Bear Lake pretty easily. Piute Creek should be roaring, so it may be tough to get to Gem Lake and that area. Granite Lake will still be iced over. Whitesides meadows will be snow and mush.

We went out of Clarks Fork. Those trailheads are open, but you hit snow about 3-4 miles up the canyons.

I was planning a week-long trip there the 1st week of June. Good to hear any info about the conditions. If you go, Justin, could you post about the trip?

Does anyone have a link for a nearby weather station?

Thanks, those links are very helpful. Looks like the snow is melting fast!

I'm taking a few coworkers out to that area over Memorial Day weekend for their first backpacking trip. IMO, there won't be much snow at all below 9000'

Dodge Ridge ski resort has webcams that show *zero* snow at the 8200' summit. Looks quite nice up there right now :)
