I am curious if I could get away with a center zip bivy like the RAB andes south col ii bivy for year round weather. But the zipper and armholes seem like they could let in a lot of water. Is this for winter pursuits only or could this handle rocky mountain storms with a down bag?
I just purchased the Sierra Bivi (same as Integral Designs' Bugaboo II bivy) and it too has a center zip.
I will be putting it to use over the course of the next few months and will write a review that includes a commentary related to the water-proofness of the center-zip design.
I also had the same question you fielded, this before my purchase, and found no adequate answers online – or from the retailer for that matter. Figured I'd have to buy the beast and figure out the answer my self, and so I did.
I can say this so far (based on a living room test)–I'm 6'3" (190 cm) and weigh 90 kg (ca. 200 lbs) and I fit comfortably in the bivy together with a NeoAir Xtherm (L) and an extra long down bag filled with 480 grams of 850 fp (EU) down. So far so good…
