Next April I would like to do the PCT from Campo to HWY 15 (Cajun Pass)….342 miles. I simply don't have the time to do a complete thru-hike. I'm afraid I'll be one of those that does it in sections. I have Washington completed.

Is Cajun Pass a good exit point? Can I hitch out of their to a big enough place with bus/train service? I'll fly down from Seattle for the start, but will need to get home via bus or train.

Any input would be appreciated.

Edit: (My spelling error)

I just checked out Cajun Pass on Google Earth. Wow…..nothing there but trains and sand.

Also a McDonalds!

Enough of us live here in SoCal that I'm sure one of us could pick you up and deposit you at a train or bus station. Do you know when you'll get there?

Sending a PM.

'Wow…..nothing there but trains and sand.'

There you go, just hop a train. Seriously though why train or bus back to Seattle and not a flight?

Besides trains and sand in the Cajon Pass there is of course a major freeway system and a few fast food joints. It is possible you could hitch a ride to San Bernardino where there is the MetroLink train station that can link you to L.A. Union Station and then on to Amtrak. There is also a GreyHound bus depot in San Bernardino as well (provide your own security). Both are not far from freeway exits. It might be difficult to find a hitch from this location though but as far as exiting this section most likely would be your best bet.

I'm not sure where I'll be in my life at that time next year or I would offer you a ride.

Thanks again for the offer Stephen. I'm glad to hear there's a McDonalds there, that's a good sign for hitching to the nearest town.
I checked around and there does appear to be large cities nearby. That's a great sign for getting an Amtrak north.
I plan to start hiking on April 24, my 52 b-day.

When you hit I-15 walk a couple miles west along the surface road (not the freeway) to HWY 138. There at the junction of I-15 & HWY 138 is a Best Western and a couple gas stations. Lots of traffic from Lancaster/Palmdale on 138 to I-15, plus plenty of big rigs getting on the freeway. So hitchhiking to San Bernadino should be easy. It is against the law in California to hitchhike on the freeway, but not surface streets.

edit: It's Cajon pass not Cajun. Cajun is probably in Louisiana. I'll check, I'll be in Louisiana next week :)

Thanks for the information. Great to know so much is near what will probably be my exit point for 2014.
