Planning a 2 nighter out and back to Lake Vernon first week of June, what should I expect as far as mosquitoes go? I expect they should be out in full force by June, no? I plan on buying a mosquito head net, deet'ing up and getting some permetherin for my clothing.

Also, I plan on exploring the surrounding area on day 2. I am thinking about heading up to Branigan Lake and Andrews peak but noticed there is no trail up to those, I will have my android gps but any advice on best routes up to these areas? Or other ideas on different areas?

Oh yeah, you should expect mosquitoes. OF course. Only time will tell if this is going to be a legendary skeeter year, like 2012, or just a normal skeeter year.

But June? Oh yeah.

It's pretty darn steep up to Branigan Lake. We came down the granite of Falls Creek, and I don't think we would be very interested in anything steeper than that. Best route might be up the East side of Falls Creek to the first bowl above Lake Vernon, then over the saddle to Branigan.

But if you are asking about this area—you need to remember that it is pretty isolated, and it is always easier to get up a granite slab than it is to get down one.

Our website has a set of photos from our trip to Jack Main Canyon that might help…
