Most definitely.

I dont crave any material possessions, or things that demand my time. Nor do I have any desire to spend money to do anything other than to get out and see the world on foot. Not that I dont, but its usually not my desire when we do, if you know what I mean. I also spend a lot of time planning where Im going next, and work to stay in shape year round so I can enjoy it. I wouldnt maintain 6-7% bodyfat, and run or do cardio daily if I didnt have a reason for it, but Im always looking forward to the next trip.

I was mentioning a potential trip to my son the other day and I realized that I had said "Its not far, only about 120 miles"

How my perception of the world of foot-travel has changed. There was a time when that was an unthinkable distance to me.

And probably the strangest thing, is once I start eating I inhale food, sometimes cannot stop. Its like the floodgates are opened. I think this began with serious multi-week calorie depravation, but it has never gone away. I dont have to be hungry either.

Yes.

I just replaced my heavy laptop with a MacBook Pro. Chose it over a MacBook Air because it has more processing power and a bigger internal drive.

"How should I deal with this stuff?"

I used to get cheap gifts related to what I like to do, or things I used to collect. Nice thought, but junk, nonetheless.
That stuff did not come into my house…straight into the garbage can outside when I got home.
I think that must have gotten out at some point, because now it seems everyone knows that if it's not something I picked out, there's no point giving me anything except cash or gift card.
Just had a birthday, and the only "things" I got were a stove I was going to buy anyway from my girlfriend, and a quilt that my parents bought from me before I could use, then briefly held hostage 'til giving it to me as a gift.
That's how my parents and I do all our birthdays and Christmas-tell each other what we want, or even go ahead and buy it, or just give money and gift cards. We like giving each other gifts, but none of us needs more crap cluttering up our lives…

believe the way to deal with stuff like this, or other sentimental things, is to take a digital photo of them. Ta-da! You have the memory, but not the thing.".

I wish I had a 3d scanner.

Because I can live more with less. It's like a way of life. I walk to and from the train to my job everyday. .about 35 minutes each way (speedwalking) in any and all weather, for last 8 years. I get to test lots of clothing and gear. I know that if needed I can get home from my job to my family simply by walking the 60 miles.(IF NEEDED). I read every single day from books, magazines and the Internet..about outdoor things and UL backpacking. Reading is good for you too. I try my best to be healthy so I can enjoy myself while I am backpacking through mountains. so yes..UL backpacking has changed the way I live..In a great way.
