I had a great trout fishing experience on the White River circa 1995.

I would like to spend 3 maybe 4 days in Missouri or Arkansas Ozarks. I've seen many trails but thought this community could help me cut to the chase. My preferences:
– backcountry (want to avoid crowds)
– long views and wide vistas are welcomed!
– campfires allowed
– don't like packing h2o…
– trout fishing along the way would be groovy

I'm able to cover 15 miles a day and gain 4,000' in altitude if necessary

Suggestions please!

Trout are best caught at the big springs resorts where they get stocked. Like Bennett Springs or Roaring River. Furthest thing from wilderness. I would hike the Ozark Trail along the Current River. Use your fly gear for small mouth bass. Native, tasty and a great fly fishing experience. Or try the Buffalo River trail. Most of the BRT is up on the ridges but as you come down in the valley at crossings, you could fish. Beautiful hiking. Tim Ernst has a great BRT book. Link for Ozark trail below.

Irish wilderness area is along the eleven point river which parts are a blue ribbon trout stream. Beautiful area with a couple springs for water and a large cave to explore. This is more south east mo.
