I picked up a Platypus 3.0 L hoser today as a replacement for my old one which appeared to have a leak. REI took care of the return with no problems.
Upon weighing it, I noticed a slight increase in weight. The actual 3.0 L hoser bladder weighs in at 53 g vs. my 2.0 L bladder (not Hoser bladder) which weighs in at 33 g.
I was wondering if anyone has tried simply using the 2.0 L Platy bladders with the hydration tubing to create a hydration system. Is the angle of the opening important? The Hoser system has the opening at a 45 degree angle.
Another thing I noticed is that the 3.0 L Hoser is more round than wide when filled vs. the 2.0 L bladder which has a flatter, wider profile. The rounded profile of the 3.0 L Hoser makes it difficult to get into my pack. Wondering if I might benefit by using the 2.0 L bladder instead. Hmm…
