Looking at Golites website at Jam,they have about same weight for 50 or 70 L.Are they the same pack,with 70 having larger extension at top?

Are you considering these packs for you trip ? Are you sure a frameless pack is what you really want for the weights you are talking about carrying .
No,i dont think i ll go with such a pack.Just asking.
From specs, I'd expect the harness to be the same on both packs, with somewhat larger pack bag (and yes, longer extension) for the 70L.
Since volume is a cube function, and pack weight (assuming identical harness) is a square function (based on area of fabric), you can get significant increase in volume for little increase in weight.
That is, other things being equal, bigger pack volume can make more efficient use of pack material/pack weight.
