Hey folks,

I'm looking to finally lighten up my shelter/tent set-up and I'm looking for some advice. Yes I've read many, many threads, but now I'm more confused than ever.

So here's what I want:

1. A cuben fly or shelter. I'd actualy prefer slightly thicker cuben here for more strength, a couple more ounces is OK. I'm sold on the waterproofnes of cuben. It rains every day where I tend to camp, very little chance for silnylon to dry out.

2. Full bug protection…hate mosquitoes.

3. Some sort of bathtub floor. This could be cuben or something else. Durable and waterproof are more important to me for this piece than weight.

4. Ease of setup.

5. Ideally uses one or two trekking poles since I'm carrying them anyway.

6. Big enough, I'm 6'1 and sleep sprawled on a LW pad. Ideally a decent vestibule to store shoes and pack in that constant rain I mentioned. Nice to sit up/change clothes inside as well.

I'm amenable to double wall tents, single wall if there aren't huge condensation issues, shelter plus inner, even mixing brands if need be.

There are SO MANY possible tarp/shelter/pyramid plus bug inner combinations…HELP!

You noted you want cuben fiber, so my immediate recommendation is the Zpacks Hexamid Duplex. It has the all the features you want and the best part is it's a palace for one person while also not being too much heavier than the single person version. You can also specify that you want it to be made with tougher cuben fiber.

From what you describe the Duplex would be a great choice. I am 6 ft 5 and it truly is a palace. Takes minutes to set up and seems pretty bulletproof. The side entry is very convenient and as previously mentioned you could ask to have it made in whatever weight Cuben you want.

Another that comes to mind would be the Yama Mountain Gear Cirraform SW which uses cuben on the top and Syl on the bottom but Gen is in the process of revamping the company so I am not sure of the wait.

MLD SOLOMID XL with a custom net inner. I am loving this shelter right now but I use the floor less tarp version

I have all three in one form or another and Love them all!! The bottom two I have only the tarps, but i started with the YMG Cirraform SW tent and shifted to the tarp only.

The Duplex offers a lot more room than either of the others, in the event that you were pinned down for a while to wait out a storm.

Jeff let me test out his duplex in a local park…. As soon as i set it up and got in it I was sold. I ordered one right away.

I'm 6'3" and sleep on a lw pad with a quilt as we'll.
