I'm getting ready to start on a summer quilt. No drawstrings and a sewn foot box extending only about 12" up the bottom side. What is everyone's preference. Flat sewn straight across, or fold in half ala rayway or the EE summer quilt from last year?

I don't make my own gear so I don't have anything to offer other than my impressions of my quilts from EE, Katabatic and now Sierra Designs. I am most impressed with Katabatics sewing and finishing. Just a thought…
I have made both the drawstring type, and the closed foot box. They both have their merits. For my closed foot box, I made an oval disc whose circumference was equal to the length of the foot end, and then sewed right side together (inside out). It was two layers of fabric with insulation in-between, like the rest of the quilt. I didn't want to lose any more length of my quilt by drawing the end together and sewing it. I was being frugal with material, and didn't want to buy an extra yard. Worked great!
When I made my quilt I also went for sewn footbox with oval end panel. Tried drawstinbg and the Rayway but didn't like them at all – needed the foot room (size 13 feet!)
My preference if not using drawstrings is also a round/oval end piece sewn in. Very easy to do and functional. Sewn straight across is tight on my feet unless sleeping on my side which I don't always do. (also size 13's)

After much research and some personal pm's from posters, here's how I did mine:
My foot end length laid out flat was 40". I have size 10-10.5 feet. I made an oval/rectangle footbox that measured 14 x 6 (16 x 8 with my beginner 1" seam allowances factored in ). I then made the footbox and sewed it together with one row of stitching on the inner loop of the allowance, then pinned it to the body of the quilt (already having stitched the approx 2 feet up from the footbox to where the body fans out) and gave it another row of stitching to the body. Done! I finished this days ago and have only spent one night in it in the yard, but it seems plenty roomy for my feet.
Hopefully this makes sense. Within the next week I'll be posting my first adventures in MYOG with my silny tarp and this M90/Apex quilt. I'll have many more details on how and where I found my info. Good luck and have fun!
