Received this yesterday:

http://www.backcountry.com/backcountry-merino-150-base-shirt-long-sleeve-mens

Price was attractive: $43.45 (reg. $79). Shirt appears well made, nice flat seams, decent athletic fit. 6.8 oz in size small. 1/4 zip LS merino base layers like this are my preference for most conditions I hike in.

I think I'll like the thumbholes, although I haven't had a shirt with them before. The zippered chest pocket I could certainly do without. The collar is a bit snug when zipped up all the way, and has a stiff interfacing that is odd–maybe it will soften after a wash or two.

Backcountry's merino never seems quite as soft as others, but still okay for me against bare skin.

I wouldn't have paid full price, but I'm happy with it for the price I did pay.

Thanks for the review and for the heads up on the deal. I'm going to try it out also, I ordered one. Its the exact weight that I'm looking for, and far more affordable than the other options.

Thanks for the heads up.

Just ordered one too.

Fantastic price and could be exactly what I am looking for.

Seems hard to find a lightweight 150 Merino with a 1/4 zip for ventilation.

Perfect for backpacking…..better yet if it had a hood like my beloved BPL Hoodie.

Not to hijack David's thread, but there does seem to be few choices in hoody base layers that I can find.

I'm trying the Mountain Hardwear Integral Hooded Top this weekend. I bought it on sale at backcountry.com for $64.00. It's a Merino/Poly blend, and reportedly 8 oz, so heavier and slightly more expensive than the Merino 150.

Jeff, how does this fit? I see there are only smalls left and wanting to try it out. I fluctuate between small and medium shirts depending on brand. Does it run like a regular athletic small or a Patagonia super anorexic small?

I'm 5'11" and a chunky 208. I like how the large fits on me, because it feels comfortable. I don't usually go for snug fits.
