I'm from a little farther south than Santa Barbara, but I've found this book to be pretty good:
"Hiking and Backpacking Santa Barbara and Ventura"
I'm in the SB area.
Do most of my hiking locally in the cooler months… after about April/May things tend to get pretty hot and dry out in the backcountry.
Happy to offer suggestions on possible routes, etc. Would also entertain teaming up for a trip sometime.
The recommended book (above) is a great resource, a good friend wrote it and I had some (very) minor involvement in it.
