Hey All

My old scale finally pooped out on me. Wondering if you all have any recommendations for a good, reasonably priced scale for weighing all your gear?

any cheap scale under $10 from amazon.com or ebay.com. I think amazon gives you a little better return policy if it doesn't work.

I had one that broke. Probably my fault. Bought another. May make more sense to buy a more expensive one that is more robust? But more expensive one may not actually be more robust?

The ones sold in the local Post Office are good. For smaller, more precise measurements check out a battery operated one by DigiWeigh with 0.1g accuracy. Neither of these are too expensive.

I have this one and have been very happy with it.

~$23

goes all the way to 11 lb; measures to 1 gram; 0.01 oz; or lbs-oz-tenths. Tare. Runs at least 4 years on 2 AA batteries. Only drawback is that the display faces up, not angled toward you. Angled display is especially helpful with oversized items that mostly block the display. Just have to get a big enough, narrow enough container (this is where the 11 lb capacity comes in handy vs. less). I've been able to work around this so far.

Overall, I'd buy it again.

I use a Pelous $20. digital postal scale that weighs items up to 5 lbs. in oz. or grams. Love it.

Total pack weight is done on digital bath scales.

I use a Park DS2 weighs in both grams (my overwhelming preference) or ounces. Very accurate, long battery life, run about $35.00. Doubles as my coffee scale when roasting.

My Weigh 3001P has been working well…popular with weight-weenie bikers

I have an uber-cheap digital from Amazon, was <$7. Similar to the other small scales being mentioned. I also have a set of calibration weights and this scale is accurate to within one gram. Readings can fluctuate very slightly (hundredths of an ounce) if an item is place on a different part of the scale platform, I usually take 3-4 readings and go with whichever comes up most often. Only issue is, as other have mentioned, difficult or unwieldy to weigh larger items because the scale platform is so small.

"difficult or unwieldy to weigh larger items because the scale platform is so small"

Hold scale in the air and put a hanger on it, zero out scale, put object to weigh on hanger…

Or, put some fairly light object on the scale, like a can, and zero it, then put object to weigh on top of the can…

Yeah, I've done things like that. To me that's unwieldy, but it works. Thanks.
