How much greenery do you guys have now???

There's a trail in central MO, possibly near St Louis that my friends want to do that is just awful if everything is grown – but very nice when leaves are sparse.

Are they too late????

I'm in Evansville, so about 180 miles east and a bit south. As of last weekend, trees were in bloom but not in leaf, greenbriar and multiflora roses on the ground were starting to get nasty, may apples just up, poison ivy not back yet.

Ticks have hatched out like mad, though.

Trees and flowers are starting to bloom. Most of the nasty undergrowth hasn't started coming in yet. The next week or two should be a great time to be on the trail.
And I can confirm the ticks are already out in force. Pulled six off my dog two weekends ago, none on me though. I had a friend that found one on him in February in between subzero weeks. I have a feeling this is going to be a really bad year for ticks.

Missouri is expecting a good crop year for poison ivy.

Poison ivy, ticks, and stinging nettle are just some of the reasons we do float trips in the summer instead of hiking in Missouri!

It's a beautiful place in the spring and fall, but oh my I'd never hike there in the summer!

I was afraid my friends were already too late to do their hike. But seems like next weekend may still be good. As long as it's not 90, anyway….

Thanks guys!

So how far do you have to go from St. Louis to get good hiking in summer?

Just hiked Berryman this last weekend and it was great! No ticks
