I'm hoping to spend about a week hiking in southern Montana or Wyoming late this summer. I'll be driving west from Michigan, and my trip could fall anywhere from early August to mid September.
I've checked out the Wind River High Route and the Teton Crest Trail, and both are on my shortlist of potential hikes. I was wondering if there were similar routes in the Absaroka/Beartooth Wilderness or the Bighorn Range. I'd prefer to have a decent portion of the route on trails, but off-trail travel above treeline is desirable too. 60-90 miles over 5-8 hiking days would fit what I'm hoping to do. I have no qualms about elevation gain, but the hiking must never be harder than class 4. I'm not very familiar with the area, so I'd prefer to utilize a route on which I can find some info, as opposed to simply planning my own week-long off-trail bushwhack.
Suggestions?
