If you had 2 days/1 night available, where would you go in Yosemite in mid May? (Assuming Tioga road is open by 2nd week of May)

I will be taking my wife with me on this trip for the first time, so a relatively "easy" trip would be good. (avoiding lots of snow, or major creek crossings)

I am thinking Porcupine creek TH down to North Dome, with a detour up to Indian rock. Camp near North Dome, hike back out the following day. I realize this could be an easy day hike, but we want to spend a night so she can get accustomed to overnight trips. Any idea what conditions might be like next month?

I am open to opinions on this hike, or suggestions for something better.

We've done North Dome from Porcupine Flat as a day hike. It's a nice hike but overnight campsites are not numerous…

Si there a reason you are focusing on Tioga Road? It's still early, and there will still be considerable snow in places. But then, for me, May is a tough month in YOsemite. The Valley is full, and there are no overnight backpacking options there. The best hikes are higher, and in May there is a lot of snow.

One option might be Glacier POint road down to Dewey Point…stunning views from there. But then again, there are stunning views from North Dome as well.

WE have photos of both hikes on our website: backpackthesierra.com

If 120 is open, the hike to Glen Aulin is easy (almost flat and not too long at ~5.5 mi each way). That might make a good introductory trip. Or you could hike Lyell Canyon to the Ireland Trail Jct. It's also flat and about ~5.5mi each way. Cathedral Lakes also comes to mind, but it is higher and may have snow …
