so my wife stole my eddie peak xv a few times this winter to walk the dog when it was really cold. she loved it. however, she is pretty preppy and wouldn't be caught dead in that huge and boxy of a jacket in public.

so i'm looking for a down parka (one that will cover below her butt) that has a good bit of down in it (ie definitely more than the standard down sweater, but not quite as much as the peak), has a hood, and doesn't make her look like she is wearing "a trash bag", as she so lovingly refers to mine.

what do you suggest?

I'm currently drooling over the Feathered Friends Ellia jacket. Warm, light, nearly 4 oz of down — the only negative would be the price!

Josh – Consider MontBell's Alpine Light or Frost Smoke. My Frostline (a men's-only product and boxy) has been a lifesaver this brutal winter in the Northern Rockies, and I have experience with many MontBell down products and recommend them highly. If your budget allows, anything from Western Mountaineering, Feathered Friends, or Nunatak would be great.
