Gram weenies be warned:

I just got my Bone Flats pants in the mail. They weigh 11.20 oz, and 12.15 oz with the included belt. The website lists them as 8.5 oz.

I received notification that the website is in error, and the pants have always weighed 11.20 oz. Today they updated the listed weight to 12 oz, which is almost a 40% increase.

The Bone Flats pants that I ordered in May of last year weigh ~11.3 (320g) in size Med with the belt. I never associated the weight discrepancy as I forgot what the website said when I got them. I don't get the 12oz unless its for a larger size or have they changed their fabric?

Its not the first time RR has had wrong weight information on their website. But I still like their clothing for outdoor activities so I continue to buy from them. For hiking in the desert, I don't really see many alternatives to their Bone Flats Pants and Eco-Mesh Pants (which in 2009 weighed 12.1oz with the belt in size Med and my new pair I just got last week weigh 12.3oz which is still more then the website shows).

The size I ordered was the medium with the regular seam length. They have not changed their fabric, and apparently do not have any suggestions for why several people have had pants that weigh very differently.

I am also happy with the pants, given alternatives. Although, I probably would have just gone with a baselayer + wind pants combo had I known they would weigh this much (because I mostly wear shorts, but like wearing pants on occasion).

I've heard of least one other person who received Bone Flats pants that were quite above the listed weight. It must be a quality control issue to be varying by up to 40%.

Edit: I've been told the variation might be from seam allowances from the seamstresses. Fair enough, but seems like a lot of weight for that. Maybe they will now mention such a weight variation on their website.

ive got a small ecomesh pants, it weighs about 11.5 I recall with belt. Doesnt matter to me, Im wearing it, it weighs what it does. I usually wear a Medium, but the RR small is more like a medium. I was skeptical because Im hard to fit usually. True 32/32. Many times a small is 30 in waist, and a med is 34, but the elastic waist on the small RR will easily go well over 32 for someone that doesnt have a big a$$. Pretty loose cut too. Its advertised as 30-32 and Id say its pretty accurate, not tight at 32.

i have rr winter weather pants that weigh different for different pairs of them. one can look close at the material, and on some of them, it is quite close to the same thing as on the normal weather pants.
i suspect the entire issue is a symptom of offshore production, and probably using different suppliers. what can you expect from imposing several thousand miles and a good number of times zones between a manufacturer and distribution center.

i like the pants just ok. they are not a mature fitted design, but they work alright if not a little soggy in the crotch and over baggy. sloppy loose all over. there is not elegance to them, even the elegance of proper baggy pants looseness.

Peter,
I kick the dog when I fart but you can't really blame the pants for having a soggy crotch.
