Those shipping bags are very much like the material in a trash compactor bag.
I have carried 45 gallon LDPE trash can liners to use for an emergency rain top, half-bivy, pack liner, ground cloth, brush shelter waterproofing, etc. As a half bivy, one will cover to the armpits. About 2oz, IIRC.
I now carry an AMK space blanket bivy instead.
