Just one little thing to keep in mind though, these are probably pultruded and are unidirectional so only have fibers running in the one direction (lengthwise). As carbon fiber is anisotropic (its strength is dependent on the direction of the fibers) it will only have significant strength longitudinally, so they shouldn't be loaded in other directions. For example if it was used as a guy out point, the direction of the main loads should run in the same direction of the fibers, so you would need to consider which way you cut it out of the rod.

A quick little graph alluding to what I am talking about. It shows how quickly stiffness falls away once you start moving away from fiber alignment (0 degrees).
