Some tick bites are causing serious allergies to meat, dairy, and meat-derived medicines. It's a problem all over the USA, and parts of Australia and Europe.

The Scariest Tick Disease You Haven't Heard Of, Outside, 2014.

If you’re allergic to meat, antibiotics and other additives may not be the reason, Washington Post, 2013

This is not breaking news, but quite a surprise to me, and many of us get tick bites frequently.

    Something to stay aware of.

In US, it is the Lone Star Tick causing the reaction to beef, pork and lamb. Appears to be first reported out of Australia in 2009.

Found one on my lower leg at about 10,000 ft northwest of Albuquerque (Jemez mountains) 2 summers ago, so altitude doesn't seem to matter:

Any tropical disease or environmental medicine doctors or other professionals care to comment on them?

From the 2012 Science Now article:
… although the highest number of reported cases of alpha-gal allergy were found in the southeastern United States, the allergy—which has affected about 1500 people and counting—has also been seen in large numbers well outside known lone star tick areas.

… we also found positive rates varying from 4% to 23% outside of the tick area. We've actually had positives as far west as Hawaii.
    Why that is isn't clear

Sounds like those New Age Vegan Commies have finally developed a serious bioweapon capability. Sell those pork belly futures short and go long on soybeans!

Terrifying because it might mean no more of the perfect food, barbeque! On a serious note, I now know at least 3 people here in the southeast who have the meat allergy. As a farmer who is outside all the time and finds lots of ticks on oneself during the season, the thought of not being able to eat some smoked pork is terrifying.
