Hey alan, I just got one of the high loft bags, but the original owner lost the stuff sack while he had it cleaned. What size compression sack should I use for this bag?

I may have the Backpacker article somewhere. I do recall the packs made by Sierra West during the time, I may even have a catalog with the packs, I'll have to take a look in the archives.

As far as a compression sack for the Alpine Designs bag – I don't know as I don't have one either. It will take a larger size as it's a whopper of a bag.

Alan, just by chance, do you happen to have a Sierra Designs Octodome or Aireflex tent?

Hi Scott,

I do not have either tent. I don't think I've ever seen either tent outside of a cataog. An Octadome would be quite fun to use.

Here are the remaining catalog pages covering packs, including the internal frame versions.

Thanks for posting those Yak Pak pictures Alan.

I am now posting a black and white picture from the Rivendell catalog advertising the Camp 7 sleep system.Camp 7 sleeping system

Hopes this helps in your research for Camp 7 products.

One of the very few outfitters in the area I lived sold Camp 7 products and I recall eyeing up the "system" with envy, but it was out of my price range at the time. Camp 7's system had to be one of the first products that was made specifically to integrate together. The polarguard over bag was made specifically to fit a particular down bag, these were not generic pieces marketed together.

I will scour my old magazines for more Alpine Designs and Camp 7 info.

I like the fact that people can buy a new Jensen pack now. They fit in well with the ultralight concept and I know they work. There were a lot of cool packs back then. I have a Cannondale Frame Pack, it was sort of like the North Face BackMagic with the flexible piece in the middle of the aluminum frame. It is still a wonderful pack and the one I use most often.

Three years ago I returned to backpacking after about 30years. I tried new packs, but wound up using my old Alpine Designs pack circa 1974. I wish I could buy another. Great weight distribution for my old back.

They show up on ebay regularly. I even bought one with a plastic frame to experiment with. My external frame from the 70's still works just fine. You can see it my avatar picture.
