That's perfect for a project I've been pondering. Thanks for posting this.

"This bag measures 85 inches tall and 31 inches wide and will keep you comfortable in temperatures 60 degrees and up."

Good Grief! A mens t-shirt would keep you that comfortable.

Does it have any insulation, or is it just fabric?

I just bought one too. I've been considering making a lightweight summer quilt but for this price, I'll just convert this to a quilt. Not sure what to expect, but for some reason I want to buy another!

Feels just like my Lafuma synthetic 50*, and though I can see light through the fabric when held up to the sun, I bet my 2.5 apex quilt would have had the same look more or less.

I just got it as a back-up / loaner for warm days in the summer for kids — I used a $55 Lafuma synthetic bag rated to *50 that weighed 1/4 lb more than this one, and took it from central Virginia all the way to Katahdin in Maine…I sleep warm.

Cheap does not mean non-functional, and I think that this will be much warmer than a cotton sheet.

Awesome! I was thinking about making an Apex summer quilt but for the price, I might just get this and cut it up.

about a quarter of an inch.

bag says 50-60, i would be fine in it at 50 with baselayers and a cap.

MUCH WARMER THAN A COTTON SHEET as it has a dwr and is wind resistant. some people here crack me up.

+1 to BG!

LOL. I used to steal my BF's large cotton, white T's and wrap myself in them. So warm, so cozy! But I did get in trouble if I cut the neck out of the crew neck ones. Who doesn't love a V-neck!?!

I bought one of these and converted it to a quilt. Got the weight down to 15oz. I'm 6' 2", and I just barely fit in it, so if you're taller look elsewhere.

I got one too. Haven't gotten around to converting it to a quilt yet, but it's a good thing I'd planned on it because the zipper broke the first time I unzipped it! But hey, what do you expect for $15. This plus a down jacket ought to keep me warm down to 50º, and my 20º quilt should be able to handle everything below that. I'm pleased.

in quilt mode with a cap 1 shirt and pants and wool socks. no hat. worked fine but that was about the limit. 50 in that setup would have left me cold i believe.

Use this sb down to 51 degrees this past weekend. Was in long johns and a simple cotton tee-shirt. Could have used to put some socks on, and a long sleeve tee-shirt.

Yes, zipper doesn't feel like it will last very long. But for $15, a good deal!

Got one, removed zipper and the hood to make a quilt out of it. Weight is 464 grams, 16.37 oz. OMS. Plan to use it when nighttime temps are above 60 degrees. I know this isn't the lightest for the temp but not to bad imo. Takes my summer (60 degree) base weight down to 6.5 pounds. I'll take it, at least for now.

What kind of insulation does it use? $9-14 is ridiculous for a light summer bag – that's the same temp rating as an old LL Bean car camping bag I had that weighed about 3x as much.

Tough to say, it's obviously not a name brand insulation or they'd advertise that fact. It's a continuous sheet though, like APEX.

would it be possible to add additional insulation to this in an easy/convenient way?

PostedJul 13, 2014 at 10:30 pm

You could cut it open and sew in another layer, sure. The existing insulation isn't sewn all the way through, but it is sewn to the bottom layer of the shell.

If you're going to the effort to buy insulation, cut this open, and re-sew it with the new insulation added, you could probably just build a quilt from scratch for a similar amount of money and time with better quality fabrics.

Blast you early birds !!! Hopefully these make a return, although I think "the boss" may have an aneurysm if three identical sleeping bags showed up on our doorstep :)
