SHOULD BE A GOOD dump over the next few days.Im thinking about heading up thursday or fri from LA to eastern sierra…main deal is to hike or snowshoe up south fork to willow lake (big pine palisades)… or little lakes valley. These would be day hikes-relaxed,take in the beauty of the mtns…CAR CAMP at trailhead or lower in the warmer valley-heck maybe a motel?

I dont have anything set in stone…maybe we can work something out?
Carpooling is an option or we can meet up there.
If i take off thursday i might sleep at the lone pine hostel.

fyi:Im a sane,responsible/lnt,semi-literate,non smoker, usually like solo trips but im open as long as the other person doesnt talk my ear off on trail- at camp i can chat my head off if need be!uuuu

Dave, I do a lot of Sierra trips from the east side and usually two in the winter. Although I have limited social skills it's always fun to meet other UL winter hikers. . . I can't make it this weekend but I will be heading out for a snowshoe trip in the Sierra the third week of April (weather permitting). Maybe we could meetup sometime. BTW, I was out for five days with a small group two weeks ago in Sabrina Basin. The conditions were beautiful with 1-2 feet of fresh powder on north facing slopes. Have fun this weekend, look forward to seeing any photos!

We were kicking steps in deep powder most of the day:

Deep steep snow

yeah, let me know if i can come on your late april trip…i like talking but not on the trail…i ve been on hikes with people and cant remember the scenery or anything about the trip because i was engaged in conversation most of the way…when im solo,i get in the zone and the scenery is engaging my brain 110%.I can sit on a rock for hours sucking in a particular amazing vista. When im alone in the wilderness i am never alone-the wind, rock, mtn, snow, birds are with me.

Hey Dave,
I would be interest in snowshoeing this weekend in Big Pine. I live in LA, I really like the Eastern Sierra. Let me know what your plans are. I have to work friday but free this weekend.

That sounds great Dave. I can relate to the uninterrupted enjoyment of the Sierra. I did the JMT solo in 2011 and although I appreciate the feeling of total immersion that comes with a few weeks solo in the backcountry I've been having fun mixing it up a little more lately.

Kevin i ll send you a pm to let you know what i have planned….have you snowshoed to willow lake?i would like to see it in full snow…it could be a very arduous day trek with the new snow? For relaxed yet dramatic scenery i think little lakes valley is doable.Anyway i ll pm you.
