I was thinking of upgrading my clothes stuffsack to cuben fiber. I've never touched cuben fiber. How comfortable would this be to sleep on? Is it plasticy and get all sweaty and stick to my face? Is it noisy such that every roll is accompanied by a lot of crunchy sounds?

Thanks.

Has a nice cuben stuff sack with one side of the interior lined with fleece. It makes a great pillow, and I use it for my extra clothes. Anyway, highly recommended UL pillow system. Works with an inflatable inside too, if your system includes wearing all your clothes to bed.

EDIT to add: no sleeping cheek-to-cuben, would be not fun. Kind of like sleeping against wax paper that is very wrinkled.

I'm usually wearing my hooded jacket to bed so the cuben stuff sack doesn't bother me. If it's hot and I'm not wearing my jacket, then I just stick my cuben sack/pillow inside of an extra shirt/beanie/neck gaiter/whatever I have laying around to make a pseudo pillow case.

I sleep in a hammock and usually wear a beanie made out of a merino buff to sleep. In that case, I'm insulated from the sounds and creepy feel of cuben, silnylon, or whatever else the stuff sack's made of. If I'm not wearing the buff, I can just pull it over the stuff sack to make nice and soft. For htis and many other reasons, Buffs rock!

I just used it for the first time this weekend. Although it is "crinkly" and makes noise, the fleece lining is very comfortable.

A great multi-use item, imho.

I've been using a zpacks medium size stuffsack as a clothing sack since 2008. And yes, I also use it for my pillow, usually with my down vest or jacket stuffed in on top of other clothes. A brand new one will have a plastic like tecture and might make some mild noise though a more worn one will be softer and quiet.

I normally slip it inside of my warm hat (beanie, balaclava) to use as a pillow case if I don't need the hat to sleep in. If I do use my hat to sleep in, then I have it pulled down so that my face is on the hat material rather then the cuben fiber. If you sleep on it directly, it is kinda sweaty (as it is a waterproof material) but not as bad as say sleeping on a ziploc.

The .51oz/yd cuben ZPacks does their lighter weight stuff sacks in isn't crinkly(maybe when brand new) like the 1.0oz/yd in their floors, and roll-top bags that include the pillow Brian and Matt mentioned. Feels better than silnylon, which doesn't bother me either, personally.
I'd like to be able to recommend that, but am not expecting a very long life for the lighter cuben, so will warn against it instead. The 12.3L/large stuff sack that I've been using for my quilt and sleeping bags is starting to come apart along a seam, and has a threadbare spot after 1 year.
I've got a Solo floor, stake bag, Multipack, and small rolltop bag from ZPacks, and the 1.0oz/yd and heavier stuff shows no wear at all, but the durability of that .51oz is pretty underwhelming for a stuff sack, and makes the idea of paying $4-600 for a shelter in that weight cuben pretty laughable.

Heavy relative to UL materials, but my favorite stuff sack to use for a pillow is an Outdoor Research mesh ditty sack-especially with a down jacket in it.
