I'm considering trying a poncho tarp over a net tent (such as the yama 1.25) to get a really cheap, lightweight shelter/ rain protection package.
The largest poncho (flat) tarp I see (in silnylon)is campmor's ultralite extension poncho tarp at 4'10 x 9'8. While this would be long enough to cover the net tent, it certainly would sacrifice a lot of weather protection at the head end on the sides of the tent.
I was hoping to find (or make) a poncho tarp that would have triangle sides and a beak that would fold in and clip to it's own tie-outs when not in use as a poncho, but expand open for use as a shelter at night. It could probably be done in the 12-13 oz or less range in sil-nylon.
Has this been done before? What does the community think? Yay or nay?
