Hi folks,

I'm planning on doing an extended JMT with a start at Twin Lakes and meeting up with the JMT in Tuolumne meadows and an exit at Horseshoe meadows. Basically, want to hike the full high sierra and these points seem to be about right for bracketing all the 12,000ft peaks.

But, it's not clear how to get from Bridgeport up to the Twin Lakes TH. I'm not sure if it's a good place to hitch a ride to or if there are taxis or shuttles that Google isn't informing me about out of Bridgeport. Nearest I can find is Mammoth Lakes…

On the other side, I'm planning on hitching down to Lone Pine from HSM – any idea if that's going to be realistic?

Thanks

We thumbed the other direction – Twin Lakes to Bridgeport – last year. Two dirty male backpackers. Got a ride reasonably quick.

Thanks Peter: What time of year was this and how busy was traffic up to Twin Lakes (morning/evening?)?

Brad is right, Paul is the cheapest. Had him shuttle me back to Tuolumne from Whitney Portal last summer. He is an interesting dude but he was on time and got us back in one piece. I would certainly use him again if I needed a shuttle on the east side.

Last summer, we exited at Twin Lakes needing a ride to Sonora Pass, where we parked. We inquired at the Mono Village office and one of their maintenance people drove us; I think we paid $80.00 plus tip, which seemed reasonable. Mono Village is a private motor home/camper compound at the TH. In fact, most/all hikers walk through Mono Village. Another option is to contact Doc and Al’s Resort, which is down the road from Mono Village. My guess is either Mono Village or Doc and Al’s have a staff person that can pick you up or they know someone in Bridgeport that can drive you to the TH. This should be less expensive than hiring someone to drive from Mammoth, Bishop, etc.
